SWORD STARTER KIT
=================

Ready-made files for building your own Minecraft Bedrock sword, one chapter at a time.
Made for Minecraft 26.60 (Script API @minecraft/server 2.11.0).

HOW TO USE IT
-------------
Each folder matches a chapter of the book. Open it when that chapter's
"Before the session" section tells you to. It holds only the files that are
new or changed in that chapter.

Chapter 04 - My First Pack A resource pack that turns the diamond sword red.
Chapter 06 - A Brand-New Sword Both packs: your sword as its own item.
Chapter 07 - Sword Stats The item file with stats, plus the battle-cry sound.
Chapter 08 - Detecting a Hit The behavior pack's new manifest and first script.
Chapter 09 - The Special Power The script with the fire power and the owner check.
Chapter 10 - Polish and Recipe The script with chance, sparks and sound; the recipe.
Finished Example Both packs complete, as they are after Chapter 10.

Pixel Grid Guide.pdf An example sword on a 16 x 16 grid, and blank grids to design your own.
UUID Worksheet.pdf Where each of your sword's five ID numbers (UUIDs) goes. One sheet per sword.

(There are no files for Chapter 5: that's the chapter where you draw your own picture.)

THE NAMES TO CHANGE
-------------------
The kit's sword is called "My Sword". Wherever you see these, put in your own:

family:my_sword your sword's ID (lowercase, underscores, no spaces)
My Sword the name people see
my_sword_owner the owner tag (keep it short)

When a chapter gives you a new copy of a file you've already changed,
put your own ID, name and tag back in.

THE TWO PACKS
-------------
MySword_RP the resource pack: how the sword looks and sounds
               goes in com.mojang\development_resource_packs
MySword_BP the behavior pack: how the sword works
               goes in com.mojang\development_behavior_packs

The pack icons say RP and BP, so you can tell them apart.

YOUR OWN ID NUMBERS (UUIDs)
---------------------------
Each pack has long ID numbers (UUIDs) in its manifest.json. The kit's numbers are the
same for everyone who uses the kit, and two packs with the same UUIDs count as the
same pack. So give your sword its own: the book shows how in Chapters 4, 6 and 8.
Make each one in PowerShell (Start > type PowerShell > Enter) by typing New-Guid
and pressing Enter. Write them on the UUID Worksheet. A sword needs five, plus one copy:
the behavior pack's first "dependencies" entry is a copy of the resource pack's header UUID.

Making a second sword (for example one for each child): copy the packs, give them new
folder names, and fill in a new worksheet with five new UUIDs.

The battle cry in Chapter 07 is a stand-in "zap". Replace my_sword_hit.ogg with
your own recording (see the chapter).
